Henry Teune

Professor of Political Science

Henry Teune passed away on April 12, 2011 at the age of 75.  With his passing, the Political Science Department lost an important friend and colleague.

Henry Teune was Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. His book on the comparative method, The Logic of Comparative Social Inquiry (with Adam Przeworski), is one of the most cited studies in the field of political science.  He was a leader and moving force in the International Political Science Association, President of the International Studies Association, and spent many years late in his career studying local government as a vehicle for democratization.  He made extraordinary contributions to Penn, serving as Chair of the Political Science Department and as a longtime member of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee.  He was also deeply committed to the education of Penn undergraduates, serving as Undergraduate Chair of the Political Science Department and Faculty Advisor to Penn’s Pi Sigma Alpha chapter.  In recognition of his many contributions to undergraduate education, Pi Sigma Alpha established the annual Henry Teune Award for Excellence in Teaching.
