Santiago Cunial

Ph. D. Student in Comparative Politics

I am currently a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in political science, and a graduate fellow at the Penn Development Research Initiative and the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy. I am interested in comparative politics and the political economy of development, with a substantive focus on environmental politics in developing countries. In my book-length dissertation, I study the political and institutional determinants (and barriers) of green energy transitions in Latin America. My research analyzes how and when policies restructure incentives for key public- and private-sector stakeholders in the energy sector.  While my main work focuses on environmental politics, I also have done extensive research on the politics of health. For more information about my research, please visit my website.
