SAS International

International Students
Nine percent of undergraduates in SAS are international students who come to Penn from 53 countries.

International Alumni
Of the SAS alumni currently in communication with the School (those for whom we have addresses), almost 6 percent maintain an address outside the U.S.

International Employment
A survey of the College's class of 1997 showed that for students employed overseas, most worked in England. Other countries employing members of this class include Canada, Czech Republic, Honduras, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Spain.

Study Abroad

  • Penn offers 80 recognized study abroad options in over 50 countries.
  • Seventy-five percent of Penn undergraduates who study abroad come from the College.
  • Most SAS students who go abroad spend one semester overseas, usually in their junior year.
  • The largest number of College students who go abroad come from majors in history, international relations, communications, English, psychology, political science, the biological basis of behavior, economics, and anthropology.
  • The most popular sites for SAS study abroad programs are Paris, Leuven, Jerusalem, Rome, Madrid, Seville, and London.

African Studies Web Site

The African Studies Center reported that in the month of March their home page received over one million "hits." The Library of Congress has hailed the site as the "most comprehensive online source for information about Africa." It is maintained by Ali Ali-Dinar, the Center's outreach coordinator.
