Buzz Bissinger Says a Prayer for the City

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Buzz Bissinger, C'76, is reading and discussing his acclaimed new book, A Prayer for the City, for the College Alumni Society at the end of February. Bissinger spent five and a half years writing his latest book, during which time he had exclusive access to Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell, C'65, and his administration. The result dramatically illustrates high-pressure politics and the threat of economic decline facing so many cities. Bissinger is also the author of the bestseller Friday Night Lights.

The College Alumni Society is also planning a Family Day at Dinofest, the world's fair of dinosaurs, featuring Associate Professor of Biology Neil Shubin on April 4. For more information, contact Anita Mastroieni at (215) 898-5262 or mastroie@ben.dev.upenn.edu.

Logan Hall Reopens

Historic Logan Hall has reopened for business. The imposing gothic building, under renovation since 1988, benefited from an exterior restoration that uncovered its original 19th century elegance, while the interiors were redesigned by architects Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates. Now housed in Logan are the College Office, Classical Studies, History and Sociology of Science, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Women's Studies, and General Honors. The Logan Hall renovations constitute the first phase of the innovative Perelman Quad. Later phases include the renovation of Houston Hall, Williams Hall, Irvine Auditorium, and the surrounding grounds to create a unified academic and student activities complex at the heart of campus.

Logan Hall will be open for visiting alumni to explore during Alumni Weekend. Guided tours, souvenirs, and printed maps with a history of the building will be available. For more information, contact Anita Mastroieni at (215) 898-5262 or mastroie@ben.dev.upenn.edu.
