The goal of this course is to improve the understanding of the roles of corporations and managers in the American society. In doing so, we will first discuss the historical context in which American corporations have grown and flourished in the early years. Also, we will study how managers shape and respond to business environments in and out of the organizations from theoretical perspectives based on both sociology and management. We will also discuss economic, socio‐political, and cultural factors, and other institutional aspects which are related to the structure and functioning of American corporations. Finally, we will explore the roles of American corporations and managers in the contexts of globalization.
