This course presents a broad overview of the multi-disciplinary science of law-making, law-breaking, and law-enforcing. The primary focus of this class will be the seminal theories on the etiology of crime, with a secondary focus on specific types of offenses and offenders. In addition to the textbook, this class will use complementary seminal and contemporary papers to provide contextual examples of how people have approached the study of crime. Finally, relevant pieces of pop culture will be examined to explore how the depiction of crime and antisocial behavior has evolved in the mainstream. Classes will consist of lectures as well as informal discussions.
