Course Description: 

This course will introduce students to the methods and theory of archaeologyby exploring how we turn archaeological data into statements about culturalbehavior.  We will discuss the place of archaeology in the broader field ofanthropology and debate issues facing the discipline today.  The course willrely on case studies from around the world and from many different timeperiods to introduce students to the research process, field and lab methods,and essential questions of archaeological anthropology.  Students will havethe opportunity to work hands-on with archaeological materials throughvisiting the galleries and working with Penn Museum collections.
