Text from Qumran tefillin. This text includes the Ten Commandments,
unlike modern tefillin which only include the paragraphs containing Exodus
13:9 and 16; Deuteronomy 6:8 and 11:18. Jewish law removed the Ten
Commandments from tefillin (and from the daily prayers) because of sects
that claimed that ONLY the Ten Commandments were given at Mt. Sinai, but
not the other laws. By removing them, Jewish law sought to prevent the
reduction of Judaism to the 10 Commandments alone.
