Such figures of Vishnu and his consort are quite distinct from "classical" Pala representations of the same deities (see no. 12). Here the gods are conceived as human figures, with contemporary clothing, jewelry, and facial features. Lakshmi wears her sari in a style common even today. These images reflect contact with Western traditions, using human models for the representation of divinities. The figures do not stand on lotus bases and may have been curios of the colonial period or votive instruments in a home shrine.
