Master of Science in Applied Geosciences
Geoscience professionals are on the forefront of environmental remediation and pollution prevention efforts. The need for technical expertise among environmental practitioners grows as the magnitude of soil and water contamination becomes apparent. Increasingly, a sound understanding of geochemistry, geophysics, hydrogeology and engineering geology are critical to addressing environmental problems.
The Master of Science in Applied Geosciences Program is a 12-course, non-thesis master's degree program with three areas of concentration:
Students may also elect to complete the degree with an individualized concentration. This program is a companion to the existing Master of Environmental Studies Program, which emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to environmental studies.
The Master of Science in Applied Geosciences Program provides preparation for career advancement and the academic foundation for licensure. Students earn a graduate degree without interrupting their careers, and both day and evening classes are available. Full-time students can complete the program in two years, and prospective and non-degree students can take individual courses to explore professional interests. Students make their own schedules and design their own courses of study. Working closely with faculty and advisors, students choose from many classes in several schools and departments of the University of Pennsylvania to build a program that matches their own unique goals.
