Matthew Lane

Vice Dean of Administration and Finance
Matthew Lane is the Executive Director of Facilities Planning and Science Operations for the School of Arts and Sciences at UPenn. Reporting directly to the Vice Dean of Finance and Administration in Arts and Sciences, Matt is responsible for facilities management, capital planning, and operational services functions for the School. His primary roles include planning and managing investments in SAS’ facilities infrastructure, ensuring proper maintenance and utilization of physical facilities in the School and overseeing crisis management response for facilities problems.   Matt serves as the principal liaison between the Office of the Dean and the various departments of the Vice President for Facilities and Real Estate Services.   Prior to working in the Facilities group, Matt was the Executive Director of the Department of Chemistry at Penn Arts and Sciences. In this role, he had management responsibility of all non-academic aspects of the Chemistry Department including facilities, HR, IT and financial planning. Matt has also served as the Director of the Office of Budget and Decision support at Penn Arts and Sciences, a role which included School level financial planning and financial management.    Matt completed his undergraduate degree at Earlham College and his graduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania Fels Institute. His career has primarily been focused in government and non-profit finance and operations management with a number of years served at the Dade County Administrative Office of the Courts (Miami Fl) and the City of Philadelphia Streets Department. He began his career at Penn in 2001 as a Budget Analyst in the School of Arts and Sciences.
