Use of Accurate Scientific Language

Reflection

To show growth of accurate scientific language I am choosing to use the first homework of Physics by Inquiry and my final paper. Before taking this course I did not have the proper terminology for more than the simplest of circuits. I could only speak about a single closed circuit as shown in my first piece of evidence. As the course progressed I was able to develop a better working language for more complicated circuits.

How this evidence illustrates growth:

As stated above, prior to this class I had a limiting understanding of accurate scientific language when addressing circuits and only knew the terms for a simple circuit.  However as the course developed I could speak about series circuits, parallel circuits, and combination circuits using the appropriate terminology.  Being able to use the correct scientific language has given me confidence to teach this topic to middle school students. I realize that my students need to have the correct terminology to become more scientifically literate.  When they build their scientific language background they can read more advanced material and advance in their understanding of more difficult concepts.
