Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Music at the University of Pennsylvania. We offer undergraduates the opportunity to major or minor in music, affording students across the university access to first-rate faculty and providing performance opportunities in a wide range of ensembles. Our graduate programs in composition, musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory have produced leading scholars and award-winning artists. A defining feature of the department is the high degree of interaction between faculty, graduates, undergraduates, and performance directors and ensembles. The department also fosters fruitful relationships with the wider community, and is defined, too, by a strong sense of civic engagement at the local and global level. Located in the heart of Philadelphia, one of the nation’s most important cultural centers, the department’s newly renovated and expanded facilities create an ideal setting for our community to engage in the rich array of intellectual and artistic pursuits to which we are committed. We look forward to welcoming you!
