Recent PhD graduate Rosella Cappella (2012), an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Boston University and currently on leave as a Visiting Fellow at the Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College, published an op-ed titled "Strong Dollar, Strong Defense" in Footnote1, an online site dedicated to translating academic work for the general public.

The department is pleased to announce its winter and spring Political Science Workshops.  The workshops intend to bring energetic scholars engaged in substantively interesting and methodologically varied projects in the fields of comparative politics, American politics, political theory and international politics to a Penn audience.

Associate Professor Michael C. Horowitz has won the Furniss Book Award from the Mershon Center for International Security Studies for his book The Diffusion of Military Power: Causes and Consequences for International Politics. This award is given each year to an author whose first book makes an exceptional contribution to the study of national and international security.

The American Political Science Association announced that Nancy J. Hirschmann, professor of political science and Chair of the department's graduate division, has been elected Vice President for 2012-2013.

Associate Professor of Political Science Michael Horowitz and Annenberg University Professor Phillip Tetlock published an article on titled "Trending Upward: How the intelligence community can better see into the future."
