Instructor: Dr. Mark Hermanson

Objectives of the class:

1. Relate various fields of chemistry to major environmental chemistry issues:
       a) China and water, food, and air pollution
       b) Thermodynamics and energy in atmospheric chemistry
       c) Redox electrochemistry in natural waters
       d) Wastewater treatment (residual chlorine)
       e) Environmental toxins
2. Draw conclusions based on data and statistical analysis.

Course Assignments:
Description/ Skill demonstrated:
Analysis of Congener 56 + 60, Deckerville (.pdf file)
PIM 1: Using the Clausius-Clapeyron equation with a congener's partial pressure at various temperature to determine the delta H vap. value.  Low values  indicate a volatile compound which has a non-local source.
Methane (.pdf file)
PIM 2: Methane as a greenhouse gas.
PS 4 (.pdf file)
Problem set 4: Stratospheric Ozone
PS 6 (.pdf file)
Problem set 6: Oxidation potential of water systems
Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) (.pdf)
PIM 3: Brominated flame retardants and their persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity (PBT)
