Talk it Out: Uncomfortable Conversations on Race, Gender Identity and Politics (Co-sponsored by Penn Arts & Sciences)
Around the globe, the challenging topics of race and gender identity are more and more prevalent. Often, these topics intersect with politics, making them even more layered and laden. These conversations aren’t easy and yet finding ways to have those uncomfortable conversations appropriately is the key to overcoming our differences and finding common ground.
Conquering Imposter Syndrome (Co-sponsored by Penn Arts & Sciences Professional Women’s Alliance)
Imposter Syndrome is the insidious thought that creeps into people’s minds and asks the question, “Who do you think you are?” Women, especially, are prone to doubt our abilities. In this lively and informative session, we’ll explore the psychological context of performance, belonging, inclusion and success. You will learn about how the syndrome manifests itself in the classroom and, by extension, in the workplace. You’ll even walk away with strategies to overcome the fear and self-doubt that forms the basis of imposter syndrome allowing individuals to thrive, engage and succeed in any environment.
Wanna Be Startin’ Something: A Peek Inside the World of Startups (Co-sponsored by Penn Arts & Sciences Professional Women’s Alliance)
Less than 3% of venture capital funding goes to women and it is time to change that! Penn has many alumnae who have defied the odds by disrupting their respective industries and building extremely successful venture-backed companies. In this engaging session, Penn entrepreneurs will share their secrets for success, the unique challenges they faced as women, and the many pivots they made along the way.

Making Cents of Retirement: How to Build the Retirement of Your Dreams (Co-sponsored by Penn Arts & Sciences Professional Women’s Alliance)
We’re living longer – and that’s great! But what does it mean for our retirement plans? Explore the key information every woman should know in order to successfully navigate the financial world to build a personal retirement plan. This dynamic panel will cover the steps to take to retire in comfort and the biggest pitfalls to avoid. Attendees will leave this session feeling empowered to take charge of their financial destiny!
How Free is Free Speech: Politics and Media in Today’s World (Co-sponsored by Penn Arts & Sciences)
Freedom of speech, as articulated in the First Amendment of the US Constitution, is an inherent right of individuals to express themselves. Yet there have always been limitations and in today’s increasingly polarized media environment, the line between truth and opinion has become increasingly blurred. In this session spanning media, politics, and academia, we’ll explore how truly free is free speech these days. And can we find our way out of this polarized media environment to a more perfect union?

Positive psychology was born at Penn Positive Psychology in 1998 when Martin Seligman chose it as the theme for his term as president of the American Psychological Association. Since then it has blossomed into a rich field that boosts self-esteem, productivity, perspective and empowerment. Want some of that? Join a panel of speakers whose research or practice applies these principles and walk away with insights into your opportunity to retrain your brain for a more positive future.
