Luke Carlson, Ph.D. candidate in Composition,

 has been awarded the Druckman Prize at the Aspen Music Festival, a commission for an original 10-12 minute orchestral composition to be performed at the festival (summer 2014) under the baton of the music director, Robert Spano.

on the successful defense of his dissertation "Music, Aesthetics, Peripherality: Notes on a Philosophy of History of Latin American Music (1910-1973)" (Jairo Moreno, advisor)
