Degree Programs in the Penn STI

Master of Chemistry Education Program (MCEP)

  • This program was a collaborative initiative of the Department of Chemistry and the Graduate School of Education that began in 2000. It was designed for secondary science educators wishing to increase their chemistry content background. A mix of chemistry, biology, and physics or physical science teachers were found in each of the cohort classes. Cohorts 1-7 have now graduated, Cohort 8 is finishing up and expecting to receive either a December 2009 or May 2010 degree, and Cohorts 9 and 10 are currently taking courses. At this point, there are NO NEW cohorts that will earn MCE degrees.

Master of Integrated Science Education Program (MISEP)

  • This new program was a collaborative initiative of the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Science, Mathematics and Physics & Astronomy and the Graduate School of Education. It began with its first cohort class in June 2005 and Cohort 1 and 2 have already graduated. Cohort 3 is currently finishing up and expecting to receive either a December 2009 or May 2010 degree. Cohorts 4 and 5 are currently taking courses. The MISE Program was designed for middle grades (5 - 9) science educators who wished to improve their science content background across the science disciplines.
